the firsts of weeks eight and nine.
monday night of week eight, i had my first mexican sweet corn cake or pudding. i'm honestly not entirely sure what it was, but it was a tasty (surprise) treat.. served alongside my dinner at alejandro's. very fall festive. haha.
first christmas songs of the season this week o' eight. yes, i realize it's only october, but i can't help it. i was looking up songs on you tube earlier in the week, and there was a link on the homepage for a version of "last christmas" by the cast of glee. that was just the beginning. then, i listened to this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HGVNzgUxE-g about eight times in a row. my favorite christmas song? "we three kings.." why? because i think the part that goes, "star of wonder, star of night, star with royal beauty bright.. westward leading, still proceeding.. guide us to thy perfect light" is beautiful. "all i want for christmas is you" by mariah carey is another christmas classic. okay, i'll stop with the christmas. for now.
week eight's thursday involved a not-so-fun first. after a little over a month of studying, i took the praxis test (a requirement for soon-to-be-grad-school-students and future teachers). still waiting for the official scores, so we shall see.
i also got to see a no-hitter for the first time during week eight.. the reds vs. the phillies. pretty neat stuff, even though the reds lost. that was also the night of our first "baseball party".. the family, bo and me, enjoying a messy dinner from the new yorker and the game.
the eighth week of my 26th year included another first.. the introduction of "cliche love song lyrics tuesdays." a silly idea i had. sharing lyrics back and forth with bo. you know, things like, "have i told you lately that i love you?" i told you it was silly.
at the end of week eight? another first. my first dinner out with mom, dad and bo all together. that was a hilarious night. "it will be dark." "i'll need a laser!" and we got to "jam" on john mayer's "3x5".. one of my and dad's all-time favorite mayer songs.. as it played in the restaurant.
sunday the 10th marked the beginning of week nine and included another first for me.. my first time having london broil at dinner with bo and his family. that was tasty. then, this past weekend, bo and i made a trip to the corn maze and pumpkin patch. definitely my first time in a corn maze. and, yes, we got lost. several times. after finally finding the maze exit, we made our way to the pumpkin patch and picked out our first pumpkin together.. a lovely nine-pound punk'n, minus one stem. hehe. a very fun afternoon.. minus the miniature horse (tiny pony) who kept getting whipped. disturbing.
week ten is under way. looking forward to the firsts ahead.

monday night, bo and i ventured to a thai restaurant downtown for dinner. i had no idea what to order, so i went with pad thai. clear rice noodles, scallions, bean sprouts with chicken and peanut sauce. delicious. seriously. before our meal, though, came an interesting drink and an interesting first - thai iced tea. at first, the tea was black, orange and white. after being instructed by the waiter to "mix it up!" (after i had already taken a sip before mixing it up properly), i had a cup full o' orange beverage. halloween in a glass, basically, and very fall festive (ha). i'm not sure how to describe it other than to say it was extremely sweet. there was a distinctive tea taste, but mostly, all i could concentrate on was the extreme sweetness. i got about halfway through it before giving up. this coming from someone who downs at least one mcdonald's sweet tea a day. later that night, i looked up thai iced tea recipes online. most recipes include water, thai tea, sugar (at least one cup of sugar to six to eight glasses of water) and condensed milk. and what do you get? sweeeeet tea.
